United 93

By host Anthony Brooks.

If you’ve been to the movies lately you might’ve seen the trailer to “United 93.” It’s Hollywood’s take on the 9-11 hijacking that ended in a fiery crash in a Pennsylvania field after passengers stormed the cockpit, and prevented the jet from becoming a fourth terrorist missile.

At Zacarias Moussaoui’s trial last week prosecutors released the cockpit voice recording of that desperate struggle, just as the trailer hit the theatres. Next week, you can see the film, provoking a growing debate about our country’s instant media culture.

Are we ready? Is this a fitting tribute to those who died that day or is Hollywood exploiting grief and fear that are still too raw?

This hour On Point, the horror of 9-11, coming soon to a theatre near you.

Guests:

Belinda Luscombe, Arts Editor at TIME Magazine

Jack Grandcolas, Husband of Lauren Grandcolas who was on United 93

Sandra Bodley, Aunt of Deora Bodley who was on United 93

Terry Greene, Sister of Donald Greene who was on Flight 93

Jeanine Basinger, Chair of Film Studies at Wesleyan University.
