By host Tom Ashbrook:

New York Times columnist Tom Friedman says it is unfair to compare Bush administration energy policy to shuffling deck chairs on the Titanic. Unfair to the captain of the Titanic, he says. The doomed ocean liner couldn’t see the iceberg. The Bush administration has seen it and sailed right into it, says Friedman.

Now we have oil over $70 dollar a barrel, gas passing three dollars a gallon, and huge oil revenues underwriting the very tyrants and terrorists President Bush says he’s determined to rein in.

Friedman’s solution sounds like more pain before a payoff. We need four dollar a gallon gasoline, he says, to get the country off oil.

Hear a conversation with New York Times’ Tom Friedman about “petropolitics” and the price of high oil.

Guests:

Thomas Friedman, columnist for The New York Times.
