Iranian Voices

by Tom Ashbrook.

Iran’s big-talking president knows how to get the world’s attention. Yesterday, in a letter to President Bush, he said Western democracy is doomed and the whole planet hates America.

He threatens oil supplies and Americans in Iraq. And then, of course, there’s the apparent Iranian push for nuclear weapons, that has Washington and the United Nations in fits.

If the whole world is watching, maybe no one is watching and listening more than Iranians abroad, as Tehran pushes this limits. This hour, we hear their intimate perspective.

This hour On Point: Iranian voices, on mullahs, nukes, and Iran’s future as Tehran pushes the patience of the world.

Guests:

Karim Sadjadpour, Iran Analyst for the International Crisis Group

Barbara Slavin, Senior Diplomatic Correspondent for USA Today

Lila Zanganeh, Editor of the Anthology, My Sister, Guard Your Veil, My Brother, Guard Your Eyes: Uncensored Iranian Voices, a book of essays from prominent liberal Iranian writers, artists, and intellectuals.

Nasrin Abdolali, a business consultant in New York. She was in Tehran last month when President Ahmadinijad announced that Iran had successfully enriched uranium

Mohsen Sazagera, visiting scholar at the Yale school for International and Area Studies, A founder of the Revolutionary Guard who became a critic of theocratic rule, and attempted a run for President in 2001.
