Iraq’s New Government
photo

By host Tom Ashbrook:

“We’re there,” said President Bush yesterday. After the naming of a new full-term cabinet in Iraq, Bush proclaimed: “We have reached a turning point in the struggle between freedom and terror.” Well, maybe.

After many such proclamations over the last three years, Americans might be forgiven for not dancing in the streets just yet. Iraqis certainly are not. Their streets are too dangerous. And the new government President Bush hailed is missing ministers in all its key security posts. All of them.

We go to Baghdad’s Green Zone, to Iraq’s streets and to Washington to ask what the new Iraqi government celebrated by Bush means for Iraq, and for the USA.

Guests:

John Burns, chief foreign correspondent and Baghad bureau chief for The New York Times

Megan Stack, Baghad correspondent for The Los Angeles Times
