Liberal Call to Arms
photo

By host Tom Ashbrook:

New Republic editor-at-large Peter Beinart is a Scoop Jackson Democrat who wants American liberals to stand up, suit up, grab their ideals and their guns, and win the war on terror. Conservatives can talk big and shake the stick, but they can’t win this one, he says. They’re too arrogant, too polarizing, too blinded by belief that America is always right.

But liberals still paralyzed by Vietnam won’t cut it either, he says. It’s time for fightin’ Democrats in the mold of Harry Truman to pull the country together, join hands with the world, and win.

Hear a conversation with New Republic’s Peter Beinart about his liberal call to arms, and the “good fight” in the war on terror.

Guests:

Peter Beinart, editor at large of The New Republic, columnist for The Washington Post and author of the new book “The Good Fight: Why Liberals–and Only Liberals– Can Win the War on Terror and Make America Great Again”

Max Boot, senior fellow at The Council on Foreign Relations
