Madeleine Albright on Religion, America and World Affairs
photo

By host Tom Ashbrook:

President Bush sat down at the White House last week with ten former secretaries of state and defense to brief them on the war in Iraq. Among those at the table was Madeleine Albright, Bill Clinton’s secretary of state, the first woman ever to fill the role. And her mind must have been churning.

In a new book on religion and foreign policy, Albright admits that she and Clinton insisted that the Balkans and the Israeli- Palestinian conflict and even Al-Qaeda were “not about religion.”

Now, some days under Bush, everything can seem to be about religion. A top Pentagon general says we must “come against them in the name of Christ.”

Hear a conversation with Madeleine Albright about God and global affairs.

Guests:

Madeleine Albright, former US Secretary of State in the Clinton Administration (1997 to 2001) and Ambassador to the United Nations from 1993 to 1997. Her new book is titled “The Mighty & the Almighty: Reflections on America, God and World Affairs.”

Ten Minutes with Brzezinski

Former National Security Advisor Zbigniew Brzezinski joined Tom from Washington, D.C. this morning and shared his impressions of President Obama’s first face-to-face meetings with Russia’s leaders.  Brzezinski called it a “sober and realistic summit, one which didn’t create undue expectations, but one which also marked some real progress…. There was, in a sense, an unstated agreement to disagree, and that’s [...]
