By host Tom Ashbrook:

There are times when the world seems on an even keel, and times when it can feel a little unhinged. This week was the latter.

Record oil prices, again. Iraq awash in blood, India bombed by terrorists, Iran and North Korea stepping back not an inch on nukes – and the Middle East on the brink, many now say, of a region-wide war as Israeli jets bomb Lebanon and the road to Damascus.

President Bush is stepping back a bit at home, maybe, on Guantanamo and domestic wire-tapping, but heads into the big G8 meeting in Russia this weekend with trouble all over and nothing like the world on his side.

Hear a conversation with Tony Blankley of the Washington Times, Karen Timulty of Time Magazine and our own Jack Beatty on a scary week in news.

Guests:

Tony Blankley, Editor of the Editorial Page of The Washington Times

Karen Tumulty, National Political Correspondent for TIME Magazine

Jack Beatty, On Point News Analyst and Senior Editor of The Atlantic Monthly.
