Irvine Welsh
photo

By host Tom Ashbrook:

Scottish novelist Irvine Welsh makes mothers hide their daughters and parsons block their ears. And he’s a hero to a generation of readers who came of age in the days of punk and grunge and hard-edged hip-hip.

Since his smash hit “Trainspotting” in the mid-’90s, he’s churned out a string of down-and-out and dangerous-living novels — “Ecstasy,” “Glue,” “Filth,” and the 2002 “Porno” — that feared no depravity, and left Welsh hailed as a rough and modern Charles Dickens.

His latest novel, “The Bedroom Secrets of the Master Chefs,” goes darkly for the soul, like “Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hide,” and even Oscar Wilde’s “Dorian Gray” before that.

Guests:

Irvine Welsh, bestselling author of several books, including “Trainspotting,” “The Acid House,” “Marabou Stork Nightmares,” “Ecstasy,” “Filth,” “Glue,” “Porno” and his most recent play, “Babylon Heights.” His latest novel is “The Bedroom Secrets of the Master Chefs.”
