Life After Hurricane Katrina
photo

Exactly one year ago, Hurricane Katrina made landfall and blasted a path of destruction across the Gulf Coast. The images of those left behind are heart wrenching: families stranded on their roofs, children wading through murky water, dead bodies floating face down.

Over 1,000 people were reportedly killed. 124,000 homes – mostly in Louisiana and Mississippi – were severely damaged. Billions of dollars have been pledged to help rebuild, but sections of the cities are still in ruin.

Hear a conversation with Gulf Coast residents and evacuees about life after Hurricane Katrina.

Guests:

Karen Swenson, anchor of “Good Morning Live” on NECN and creator of the documentary “Katrina: A Flood of Tears”

Patriana Peters, resident of New Orleans’ lower ninth ward

Christie Yoste, resident of Gulfport, Mississippi

Maurice Davis, former resident of MT. Hermon, Louisiana and now resident of Des Moines, Iowa

Johnathan Ferarra, artist and gallery owner and entrepreneur in New Orleans

Peter Nakhid, former resident of New Orleans and now a resident of Atlanta, Georgia
