Week in the News
photo

By host Tom Ashbrook:

It’s been a big week for defense and offense in Washington. President Bush traveled to Capitol Hill to personally lobby for his detainee trials bill and tell Congress it’s their job to protect the homeland.

Former Secretary of State and chairman of the Joint Chiefs, General Colin Powell, charged that “the world is beginning to doubt the moral basis of our fight against terrorism.”

There were more reports of deep trouble in Iraq, more warnings on the state of the US military, and more calls for Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld to resign.

We look at a week of war and politics with a former secretary of defense and Republican senator, William Cohen, civilian chief of the Pentagon under Bill Clinton.

Guests:

William Cohen. He served as Secretary of Defense under President Clinton, and as Republican Senator and Congressman from Maine. His book is titled “Dragon Fire.”
