In October 1996, the Fox News Channel first hit cable TV. This week, Fox News at 10 is an anniversary. Ten years on, Fox News is easily the most polarizing news channel in American media, and long-since a major player in American politics.
Its talk-meisters — Bill O’Reilly, Sean Hannity and more — rally conservatives and drive liberals wild. Its newscasts — “Fair and Balanced,” “The Most Powerful Name in News” — have set new standards of news with attitude, and audience records.
Critics call the net effect propaganda masquerading as news. Fox fans say it has just rounded out the politics of the American media.
