Wall Street Titan Sandy Weill

By host Tom Ashbrook:

Big business is big news in America right now. The Dow is over 12,000 points. Former New York Stock Exchange chief Dick Grasso has been ordered to pay back maybe a hundred million dollars in super-pay.

For decades, one of the biggest of the big newsmakers in American finance and high-wire deals has been the legendary Wall Street titan, Sandy Weill. He is the kid from Brooklyn who became king of The Street with deal after giant deal.

At the peak of 1990s deal-making, he built the Citigroup colossus. In the fierce bear market that followed, he was mauled for Citigroup’s links to Enron and Worldcom. Now, Sandy Weill tells his own story.

Hear a conversation with billionaire finance titan Sandy Weill on empire-building in America.

Guests:

He currently chairs the boards of The National Academy Foundation, which encourages urban children to pursue business careers, the Weill Medical College of Cornell University and Carnegie Hall. His new book is “The Real Deal: My Life in Business and Philanthropy.”;
Geoff Colvin, senior editor at large of Fortune magazine.
