The Season of Giving
photo

By Tom Ashbrook:

“We make a living by what we get,” said Winston Churchill. “We make a life by what we give.” Some give billions these days — Bill Gates, Warren Buffett — and, well, they should for the billions they’ve made. But we’re not all billionaires.

Everyday across the country an informal army of Americans give directly of themselves — their time, their effort, their love — for causes great and small, for people who need help.

They come home from work, and go out to give — at food shelters and hospices and emergency search and rescue. They rebuild lives in this country and whole communities abroad voluntarily because they can.

This hour On Point: stories of giving, giving of oneself, with people who do it — everyday.

Guests:

Cori Stern, founder of The Next Right Thing in LA

Ron Garcia, founder of Team Tobati in New Britain, CT

Ana Sharma, Clinical research associate at the Kansas City VA Medical Center

Anne Unterseher, owner of the Cash Cart Pay-Day Loans and Pawn Shop in Beulah, ND

Loneita Wilson, volunteer at the Mother Waddles Perpetual Mission in Detroit, Michigan.;
Jack Beatty, On Point News Analyst
