Academy Awards

The Oscars are this Sunday, and the competition for Best Picture remains as wide open as it has been in years.

It’s a mystery which way Academy voters will go, as all of the “Big Five” films seem to have a chance. Will it be “Babel,” “The Departed,” “Letters from Iwo Jima,” “Little Miss Sunshine,” or “The Queen”?

And there are other intrigues. Will tough guy Martin Scorsese weep if he finally wins Best Director? Will Sacha Baron Cohen, Tom Cruise and Eddie Murphy behave themselves? The behind-the-scenes campaigning for each film has been fierce. Big money is at stake, and big egos are involved.

Guests:

David Carr, media critic and author of the “Carpetbagger” blog for The New York Times

Lisa Kennedy, film critic, The Denver Post

Jack Beatty, On Point news analyst, senior editor at The Atlantic Monthly
