Week in the News
photo

By Tom Ashbrook.

It has been a week when the grand could barely deliver, and the strangely gripping stories came from left field.

In the chambers of the U.S. Senate, Republicans and Democrats debated who was less at grips with the Iraq War.

The president’s giant budget landed with a promise of balanced federal books by 2012 that precious few believe.

Rudy Giuliani will run for president. Scooter Libby is still in the dock. Then came mid-air fighter pilot voices from over Afghanistan: “We’re going to jail, dude”. The weird story of astronaut love. Gay sex scandal pastor Ted Haggard, announcing he’s now “completely heterosexual”. And choppers down.

This hour On Point: we get behind the week’s headlines with top analysts, Jack Beatty, and you.

Guests:

Eleanor Clift, contributing editor for Newsweek

Jonah Goldberg, columnist for the Los Angeles Times and editor-at-large at the National Review

Jack Beatty, On Point news analyst, senior editor at the Atlantic Monthly
