Kurt Vonnegut, the great satirical novelist and social critic, died Wednesday. He was 84 years old.
He drew on his own experience as a German prisoner of war in World War II for the 1969 anti-war novel “Slaughterhouse Five.” The book reached number one on the New York Times bestseller list and brought Vonnegut national attention.
The novel follows Billy Pilgrim, a prisoner of war in Dresden, as a man who has become unstuck in time as he travels back and forth across the years of his life.
We remember Kurt Vonnegut and listen to him read a passage from “Slaughterhouse Five.”
