Talking about Cancer
photo

By guest host Jane Clayson:

Millions of Americans are living with cancer, and some very publicly. Elizabeth Edwards, Tony Snow, and Fred Thompson — who thought they had won their battles with the disease — are coping with reoccurrences.

These latest high-profile cases show how American attitudes toward cancer have changed, from something that could only be whispered to a disease that can be conquered. New treatments are allowing patients to live with certain types of cancer and the survival rates are better than ever.

This hour On Point: Living with cancer in America and combating the disease.

Guests:

Dr. Eric Winer, Director, Breast Oncology Center, Dana-Farber Cancer Institute

Dr. Bernadine Healy, health editor at US News & World Report, former head or the National Institutes of Health and the American Cancer Society, eight years ago, diagnosed with a brain tumor, author of “Living Time: Faith and Facts to Transfor Your Cancer Journey”
