GOP Icons’ Heirs on the GOP
photo

By Tom Ashbrook:

When the Republican party was riding high, through the Republican Revolution of the 90s and the White House entry of George W. Bush, success covered fault lines.

Now, the GOP is in trouble, and some big Republican names are talking about why. Very big names, like the heirs of Barry Goldwater, Dwight Eisenhower and Teddy Roosevelt.

This hour On Point: three heirs of towering GOP icons talk about the state and fate of the Republican party.

Guests:

Theodore Roosevelt IV, investment banker. His great grandfather is Theodore Roosevelt, the 26th president of the United States.

Susan Eisenhower, chief executive of the Eisenhower Group, a Washington-based public affairs and business consulting firm. She is the granddaughter of Dwight D. Eisenhower.

Peggy Goldwater Clay, columnist, Orange Coast Magazine and long-time volunteer. She is the youngest of Barry Goldwater’s four children, and was 19 years old when he announced his plan to run for president.
