Week in the News

By host Tom Ashbrook:

It’s supposed to be the dog days of summer, but news keeps popping out all over.

Global stock markets have been on a wild ride and the Fed intervenes. The Utah mine goes from bad to worse, as rescuers die. There was a big earthquake in Peru. More poison toys from China. A record bomb toll in Iraq, and a scary ding in the space shuttle’s wing.

This is not summer fun, but it’s all happening. Padilla’s convicted. Rove’s a free man in Texas, and throwing jabs at Hillary. Military spy satellites are given the green light to watch you and me.

This hour On Point: our weekly news roundtable goes behind the headlines.

Guests:

Anne Kornblut, national political correspondent, The Washington Post

Roy Sekoff, editor, The Huffington Post

Jack Beatty, On Point news analyst and senior editor, The Atlantic Monthly.
