Michelle's speech did soften my attitude towards her. Hillary's speech left me wondering, once again, how it ever happened that she is not our candidate. BUT even though I am still not excited about Obama, Hillary's speech did push me over the line to be able to state that I will vote for Obama - because I recognize, as Hillary so skillfully guided my thoughts, that I wasn't in it just for her - I was in it for "them". She asked exactly the right question, and I am convinced that Obama comes closer to the policies and emphasis I was looking for from Hillary than does McCain.

I can also state without a doubt that having Biden on the ticket is a big plus for me, too. If Obama had to choose a VP other than Hillary, I think Biden is my favorite choice.

None of this, however, means that I am not still very sad that Chelsea won't have the chance to vote for her mother in November!

An ABC News Washington Post poll reported in today's Guardian says that only 42% of Clinton supporters plan to vote for Obama.

Hillary's speech has been widely hailed by Democrats eager to create an image of party unity as a resounding success, but others with less vested interest in promoting a particular narrative have described it as a "lesser-of-two-evils" speech. In fact, according to the above Guardian story, many of Hillay's supporters are planning to fly home from Denver today, now that Hillary has given her talk.

Also, CNN and other news outlets today are reporting that Bill Clinton is planning to not attend Obama's acceptance speech on Thursday. None of the reports suggested a reason for this but it will be widely seen as yet another Clinton slight against Obama, underming the unity that the Dem's will need to win in November.

I was inspired by Hillary's speech last night, she is leading us forward, not dwelling on what has not been accomplished but what needs to be done. She is showing us the strength, energy and persistence to keep going.

Michelle's speech was helpful because it did give us another image, without that chip on the shoulder that Richard acknowledged others see. And I expect she'll also show us a model of commitment to the same values that Hillary has fought for in the toughest arena there is.

I think Michelle gave a fantastic speech and went a long way toward softening her image as someone who's got a chip on her shoulder (I don't think this but I think some do).

Many people who see that chip are confusing it with a strong, attractive, successful black woman.

Between Michelle's speech and Hillary's excellent speech last night, it's easy to see that we'll have a woman president, maybe a black woman president soon.
