Follow us (yep) on Twitter…

Yes, at last, we’re on Twitter: @OnPointRadio. We’re off an running as of this morning. You’ll see we need followers!

I’m doing the “tweeting” right now, and I’ll have help along the way from other On Point staffers.  If you’re on Twitter yourself (as I know many of you must be), tell us what you want to see in an On Point Twitter feed.

P.S. By the way, back in April ‘07, we did an hour on Twitter with co-founder Jack Dorsey and others. As Tom put it in his intro, “We’re pushing deeper into the seamless cyber-mind. Are we happy now?” Well, happiness is a high bar. Maybe we’re at least having fun…

  • In Pennsylvania we have bills in both houses of the General Assembly which would creat a single payer health care system in the commonwealth. With passage of HB 1660 & SB 400 the taxpayers will save millions. They are proposing cutting library hours in Erie, PA, yet the County government could save over $9 million per year on health care expenses. Quite the story, yet no interest from local media.

  • Sorry for the double post. I would love to see more behind the scenes commentary, things said that didn’t make it on the air and intersting links that might be relevant to a recent broadcast.

  • Hey, S.G., no problem. Sounds like we’re on the same page. Do you also like to get a heads up on the next day’s topics/guests? And how much from us is too much?

  • Twitter…

Would love to hear about show plans being developed, and show descriptions in advance so they can be planned to listen to live if I want to live instead of by podcast.

behind the scenes stuff about development of future shows would be cool too.

IED’s in Afghanistan: Hard Numbers

The Department of Defense provided On Point with some statistics about IED attacks in Afghanistan, where there has been an increase in the use of such weapons over the past 14 months. It’s striking to see the spike in numbers — from 2,677 IED incidents in 2007 to 8,159 last year.

Christopher Hill: U.S. Troop Withdrawal ‘On Schedule’

U.S. Ambassaor to Iraq Christopher Hill spoke with On Point live from Baghdad today as early voting gets underway, part of the run-up to Sunday’s elections. “So far so good,” Hill said, despite scattered violence. Hill said that the plan to withdraw U.S. combat troops by Sept. 1, and to leave only a residual advisory force of 50,000 or fewer, remains “very much on schedule.” Observers worry that a spike in violence could derail that timeline.
