Eve Ensler Performs

(AP Photo/V-Day)

Eve Ensler performed a couple of monologues from her new book “I am an Emotional Creature: The Secret Life of Girls Around the World“ in our second hour on Wednesday.

We got a very big response – both over the phones and online – so we thought we’d pull out the two readings and offer them here for your listening pleasure (and your reactions).

Here’s the monologue “You Tell Me How To Be a Girl in 2010″:

And here’s the book’s title monologue, “I Am an Emotional Creature“:

What do you think?  You can listen to the full interview — and see the range of online comments — here.

  • Dear On Point team:
Thanks for this amazing interview with Eve Ensler. I just saw “The Vagina Monologues” for the first time a few weeks ago in Lausanne, Switzerland (where I live) in French! The large hall was packed, and I was surprised to see many men there (wish I had insisted on my husband coming with me). Can’t wait to order her new book. On Point is by far my favorite podcast. Tom, you are also amazing. The subjects are great, the guests you select are perfect, but the art is really in the questions you ask, how you ask them, and the whole way you run the show. A+++. Keep up the good work. And yes, I do donate!

  • About posting to Facebook–the link on this page does not seem to work (I tried). So the best is to copy the URL on this page http://www.onpointradio.org/2010/02/eve-ensler-performs#comments and then you simply click “link” under your comment, put in the URL, and it automatically puts in the thumbmail and info, too.

IED’s in Afghanistan: Hard Numbers

The Department of Defense provided On Point with some statistics about IED attacks in Afghanistan, where there has been an increase in the use of such weapons over the past 14 months. It’s striking to see the spike in numbers — from 2,677 IED incidents in 2007 to 8,159 last year.

Christopher Hill: U.S. Troop Withdrawal ‘On Schedule’

U.S. Ambassaor to Iraq Christopher Hill spoke with On Point live from Baghdad today as early voting gets underway, part of the run-up to Sunday’s elections. “So far so good,” Hill said, despite scattered violence. Hill said that the plan to withdraw U.S. combat troops by Sept. 1, and to leave only a residual advisory force of 50,000 or fewer, remains “very much on schedule.” Observers worry that a spike in violence could derail that timeline.
