Iranian lawyer and human rights activist Shirin Ebadi won the Nobel Peace Prize in October 2003 for her promotion of peaceful, democratic solutions to serious societal problems. She was the first Muslim woman to win the Prize, and argues that democracy and a new interpretation of Islamic law are fully compatible.
In a speech this afternoon at Harvard University’s Kennedy School of Government she criticized the United States for its policies in Iraq. Hear an excerpt from that speech.
