D-Day: Crossing the English Channel

By dawn on June 6, 1944, in the rough waters of the English Channel, an armada of 900 warships and more than 4000 other vessels powered toward France. 125,000 American and British infantry men were packed into landing craft that transported them to the beaches of Normandy. The craft took heavy fire. Hundreds died before hitting the sand.

In this radio diary, Wilfred Bennett, Robert Walker, George Kobey, Harry Bear, Warren Brenneman, Donald Scribner, Bruce Bradley, Howard Vander-Beek, Lawrence Orr, and Anthony Duke, talk about crossing the English channel to Normandy.
