Ukrainian President Viktor Yushchenko is currently on his first visit to the United States since he came to power in the so-called Orange Revolution last December. At the White House yesterday, President Bush lauded Yushchenko’s victory as “an example of democracy for people around the world.”
Today, the Ukrainian President was given the 2005 John F. Kennedy Profile in Courage Award at the Kennedy Library in Boston. In accepting the award, Yushchenko expressed his personal admiration for President Kennedy, and said that Ukranians are ready to accept the challenges of democracy that Kennedy himself once laid out for Americans.
